Administration of the Privacy Act in 2022-2023

Workload

  • The OIC saw unprecedented increases in all areas in 2022‑23 (from the previous fiscal year).
  • 43 new requests were received, an increase of 154%.
  • 33 429 pages were processed, an increase of 979%.
  • One request for consultation was received and closed within the reporting period.

Timeliness

  • The OIC completed all requests within the reporting period and all requests received in 2022‑23 were completed on time.
  • The average time taken to respond to privacy requests was 15.8 days for 2022‑23.
  • This ongoing commitment to ensuring timely access to information has been a pillar of the OIC’s Access to Information and Privacy program for over 10 years.

Tools

  • A new database was created and preparations were made to transition to the most up-to-date version of ATIPXpress, the case management system used at the OIC.
  • The adoption of this new version, launched April 1, 2023, will result in greater efficiency in processing requests and fewer technical difficulties.

Complaints

  • The Office of the Privacy Commissioner received two complaints about the OIC’s handling of privacy matters in 2022‑23.
  • Both complaints were discontinued.
