Grace-Pépin Access to Information Award 2013 Recipient

Ottawa, September 30, 2013 - This year’s recipient of the Grace-Pépin Access to Information Award is the Canadian Access and Privacy Association (CAPA). The award is presented to an organization recognized for its dedication towards advancing the principles of access to information across Canada.

It was presented by Information Commissioner of Canada, Suzanne Legault, to CAPA’s president, M. Laurence Kearley at the Germain Brière Day and Right to Know Day 2013 Conference, which was held at the University of Ottawa on September 28.

“Once again, this award proves that the access community in Canada is composed of a remarkable group of people. People who have demonstrated that there is a need and a desire for greater transparency and better access to information in Canada” said Suzanne Legault, Information Commissioner of Canada.

CAPA’s mission is to promote professional development among members and to engage in public education concerning information rights. CAPA delivers every year a successful national conference in Ottawa.

The Grace-Pépin Award was named in recognition of the contributions of John Grace (1927-2009), former Information Commissioner of Canada, and Marcel Pépin (1941-1999), President and founder of the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
