The OIC has a data management job opportunity in its Intake and Early Resolution Unit of the Complaints Resolution and Compliance Branch. The position involves compiling information, conducting statistical analysis and writing business reports. The ideal candidate is bilingual and must be proficient at a superior level in Microsoft Excel. Experience in the fields of Access to Information, Privacy and/or a legal background is an asset.

This opportunity is for a casual contract up to 90 business days. Enhanced Reliability status is required.

Specializations / Essential Qualifications

The candidate should have already studied and applied elements of data management and statistical analysis which they can apply efficiently to the OIC’s Time Extension Project. The scope of this project is to compile data that has been submitted to the OIC, confirm accuracy of the data, analyze emerging themes and prepare reports. The candidate should also be able to troubleshoot problems and be able to prepare the results for electronic publication.

The candidate must be proficient at a superior level in Excel and be able to develop graphs and other statistical reporting tools, as required. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook are also necessary.

Knowledge of the functions of the Office of the Information Commission, the Department of Justice, the Privy Council Office and the Treasury Board Secretariat as it relates to the Access to Information Act would be asset qualifications.

Description of Duties

The candidate in this position will be responsible for organizing large amounts of data that are submitted to the OIC in order for institutions to comply with the Access to Information Act. The candidate will receive copies of extension of time notices from institutions and sort them into specific categories, identifying institutions that demonstrate recurring issues, vetting the notices for errors, and developing remedial ways to correctly register their data. The candidate must have the ability to troubleshoot problems in order to ensure that the accounting is factual and accurate. The candidate will analyze the results in order to identify trends and will create both statistical and factual briefings of their observations and findings for reporting to senior management and posting on the OIC website.
